A day at the park with Not a Clue Adventures and Good Time Kayaking

Lake Rogers, Odessa, Florida

May 22nd 2010

Robin from GTK and NAC volunteer Ellie and I arrived about 5pm on Friday night to start setting up for Saturday’s event. The park rangers were so cooperative and helpful. They very much want to share the park with responsible patrons! Not long after we arrived Ellie saw a very colorful Corn Snake that did not mind having it’s photo taken at all.

Friday night was very relaxing after we got everything all set up and soon we were sitting overlooking this beautiful lake watching a storm in the distance. We had to get to bed early though because we had a busy day coming up!

Saturday we woke up at 5 am to a very angry squirrel. I think he/she was yelling at us for being in his/her back yard. It barked at us for an hour before going off to forage add play with the other 6-7 that were all in the same area.

After some hot coffee and  a  snack for breakfast with was time to take the tents down and unload the kayaks. Soon al was ready and our participants began arriving. Everyone was ready to hit the water first.  After a couple hours paddling tummies were growling and we all sat down to hot dogs, BBQ Chicken sandwiches, watermelon, salad, and chips. The grand finale for lunch was Dutch oven peach cobbler….it disappeared almost instantly!

After we cleaned up lunch a few took off to hike some trails while others wanted to give fishing a try. The fish were biting and crickets were on the menu! We fed a lot of fish J

After getting very hot fishing there was time for one more afternoon paddle before we had to break down and leave for the day.

Everyone appeared to have a wonderful time and we hope they all come back out with us again!

About notacluegal

Jeanene was born in Pittsburgh, PA. As a young child her family was very active in the outdoors. Things changed when her parents decided to travel down different paths in life and with that decision so went many of the opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. Being lucky to live in the suburbs Jeanene always had a backyard to play in and loved being outdoors. As the years passed she took every opportunity to be outdoors. She bought land in Tennessee and as a single mom moved her young daughter to the mountains. The were many life lessons learned on that mountain. There was no plumbing on the property – or even a house, but that did not stop her. She learned to live off of what was available and built her own cabin from the trees on her property. Those were rough years but the most rewarding. Now Jeanene resides in Tampa, Fl. and works as an office manager full time….but still yeans to be outdoors. Jeanene started “Not a Clue Adventures” to teach everyone she could how wonderful the outdoors are! That camping and fishing and hiking can be done by everyone and at many different levels. Single mom’s no longer have to be afraid to take their sons and daughters outdoors. By working with young couples, single parents and even seniors, she gets to teach others about her love for the outdoors and hopes to open their eyes to new adventures. In 2009, Jeanene completed certification as a Leave No Trace Instructor. She also works closely with the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF), Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission (FWC) and the Florida State Parks. Jeanene is also certified in First Aid/Adult CPR.
